Internet Rates

We have three packages at the moment, which cater for most.  They are all uncapped.  The only shaping is that bit torrent downloads are restricted during working hours to ensure balanced bandwidths for all during working hours.  These are

32kbps, uncapped*, R149pm
64kbps, uncapped*, R249pm
192kbps with bursting, uncapped*, R399
Packages can be tailored up to 10mbps, uncapped*.  Contact us for more details

Fast capped packages will also be offered in 2012.  Pricing will follow in the new year

(* Fair usage policies apply to these packages.  Fair usage cap for the 192kbps package is 5GB per month.  When the fair usage cap is reached, you will still have an internet connection, but the speeds might be greatly reduced.  Also, banking charges incurred on deposits will be added to the monthly fees. In addition to cash deposit fees, banks have started charging cheque deposit fees.  These charges are not included in the fee calculations)

Please note that we do not have contracts, and that all payments are to be paid a month in advance. We do not believe in tying you down with 12 or 24 month contracts.  Our service levels should be good enough reason for you to keep our services.  All packages, including the VoIP packages work on a pre-paid basis.  A one month notice period will apply if you wish to terminate any service.

Please note that we are not yet Vat registered, therefore no Vat can be claimed.  To compare our rates to those of other service providers, you may have to adjust their prices if they are shown as Vat exclusive.  eg Telkom lists their national call rate as R0.57/min which is the Vat exclusive amount - add Vat and you get R0.65/minute.

These call rates are very attractive when compared to what's avaiable on the market, and when compared to the traditional service providers.  While very reliable, it must be pointed out that VOIP communication channels rely on the internet, where connectivity is not guaranteed.  We only have control of the network up to the POP where we enter world wide web, which is controlled by many masters.  As such, we recommend that you do not solely rely on our VoIP solution, especially if phone communications are vital to the existence of your business or livelihood.

Having said that, VoIP is becoming more and more reliable when compared to other service providers, and many predict that by 2020 80% of all telephone communication will be via VoIP worldwide.

Furthermore, we do encourage all subscribers to have contingency rules, as we cannot guarantee 100% uptime, as we do not have full control of internet connectivity.  Having said that, we probably have better uptime percentages than the conventional local service providers, who cannot guarantee 100% uptime either.

Also note that when making local calls, use the non-E164 standard, ie dial the full area code and telephone number, eg 0339401234.  Do NOT use the E164 code, such as +27339401234, as this will force the network to use our international partners with much higher call costs (such as R1.50/min)

Fax Numbers (FoIP)                                                                                                   [back to the top]
Most old fax machines can also be used with the use of an analogue adaptor (R450).  Each number has the same monthly connection fee as the E-SIP account, and airtime costs R1.14 per minute for faxing within RSA.

Can traditional fax machines be used?
Yes they can, with an adaptor.  Monthly connection fees are the same as for E-SIP, and call costs are R1.00 per minute

Which VOIP package do you need?                                                                           [back to the top]
If you need an individual phone, similar to a stand alone Telkom number, with 1 telephone, then you need an E-SIP account.  This gives you your own 033 940xxxx number.

If you need a PBX (switchboard), then you will need one of the packages from the E-PBX range.  These are virtual switchboards.  No hardware is needed.  Extension phones can be located anywhere world wide, not just in your office. No expensive switch boards are needed.  Features available exceed most modern switchboards.  New features are automatically available every time the software on the server is upgraded to the latest version.  There is no switchboard which can be struck by lightning, or which can be damaged by electricity voltage surges.

Airtime - How do you pay for your calls?                                                                    [back to the top]
At the beginning of the month you will receive an invoice for the next month's connection fee.  As all calls work on pre-paid airtime, airtime quantities will be controlled by yourself.  You will be alerted via email, and also by audio when making calls, when your airtime drops below a preset value, which you can set on the web interface.  To top up your airtime, make a transfer into our account and then notify our accounts department with the pop via email, specifying that this is for airtime.  As reference please use your account number and name.  Accounts will then transfer this amount to your phone account.

Some definitions:                                                                                                        [back to the top]
IVR - Interactive Voice Response.  This is a technology which automates interactions with telephone callers, like voice prompts and menus for information, and touch-tone telephone keypad entries for different options.

DiD - Direct Inward Dialling.  This is the telephone number used for incoming calls.  A simple PBX only needs one DiD.  If you have x extensions, you can have x simultaneous external calls, both incoming and outgoing, even though you only have one public DiD number.

Phone Extensions - all extensions can receive and make external calls at the same time.  eg in E-PBX-10, all 10 extensions can make and receive calls at the same time.

Voicemail to Email - If you do not answer your telephone, the caller can leave a message.  This message is saved as a recording and sent to your email address.  It can be downloaded, and then played back on your computer, and saved for records.

What equipment do you need?                                                                                  [back to the top]
VOIP phones used include Yealink, Snom, Gigaset (Siemens) Grandstream and Atcom.  They come in various forms, such as desktop and cordless phones.  You can view some phones here

If you have an existing switchboard or normal telephones, an analogue adaptor can be used to integrate new VOIP connectivity.

Can old Telkom numbers be kept?                                                                             [back to the top]
Yes, if the number is still in your name and if the account is paid up.
Forms have to be submitted, and the process takes 14 working days.  The once off transfer fee is R250 per number.  (If you have cancelled your Telkom number, this is not possible.)

You need to fill in the forms below (click on the links to download them), sign them, scan them into PDF format, and send them to us via email.  Also needed are pdf scanned images of the id who signed the authorisation forms, and a pdf copy of the latest Telkom bill.   We will then submit them to the right authorities.
